The Arts Council, the Heritage Commission, and all state involvement in art and architecture should be abandoned, if we want to have a cultural renaissance. What could be more soul-destroying for an artist than to know that his work must be approved by a committee of politicians? Or that his independently financed work will have to struggle against the competition of state-approved work? Or that his taxes are paying for the work of his rivals? For all these reasons, the BBC should also be privatised.
